Genevieve Sheridan (pictured left, circa 1942), known by friends and family as 'Bippy', inspired her four children not only to dream but also to develop the skills necessary to realize our dreams. She designed her own patterns for clothes and fabric furniture coverings. As a master seamstress she sewed with great precision. Her creative spirit was fueled by her insatiable curiosity, resourcefulness and fierce independence. We were summoned to the family dinner table by fragrances of her masterfully creative Cajun-inspired cooking, which she learned from her mother while growing up during the Great Depression in Louisiana. Her legacy also includes her appreciation for art, design, homemaking and her expansive ability to laugh at herself.
Genevieve served her country proudly as a member of the US Navy WAVES program (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II as a cartographer. She is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
Thanks Genevieve, for all you taught us!
To honor Genevieve, we are extending her creative legacy to her grandchildren and into the world through this store, GENEVIEVE SHERIDAN.
GENEVIEVE SHERIDAN aims to take ordinary everyday ceramic (stoneware and porcelain) and stone housewares and make them extraordinary using imaginative sandblast etching techniques and artwork, incorporating 3d print technologies and parametric design. We find that neutral glazes (white, gray, taupe) on beige stoneware and color glazes on white porcelain bodies are most aesthetically pleasing. We are starting out small with our line of mugs and hope to branch out to meet our customers' interests. Please let us know what you'd like to see offered next using our Contact Us page and check back to see new products as they arrive. Feel free to contact us about our techniques, we're happy to share.
Special thanks to D&B Photos of Richmond, Virginia for home page photography.
